Going Pro Archive 76 active affiliated pros played summer ball for WCCBL clubsEx-Bell Jeff Francis shines for Rockies

76 players with experience competing for WCCBL teams are currently active professionals playing for MLB affiliated clubs. The list of pros includes MLB starting pitchers Jeff Francis of the Colorado Rockies, Ty Taubenheim of the Toronto Blue Jays and Jason Hammel of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and catcher Chris Stewart of the Chicago White Sox. Francis and Taubenheim both pitched for the Bellingham Bells in 2002 and Taubenheim faced Francis at Coors Field in his MLB debut. Francis, who threw his final amateur game for the Bells, finished the 2006 season 13-11 over 32 starts and posted an impressive 4.16 ERA considering his home park (Coors Field). Taubenheim made 12 appearances and 7 starts for Toronto before getting sent back down to AAA Syracuse after a stint on the DL (staph infection). Jason Hammel spent the bulk of the year with AAA Durham after making two early starts for the Rays before finishing the last month of the season back with the big club. Stewart was called up to the White Sox when rosters were expanded September 1 and made a start vs. the Cleveland Indians. Of the 76 WCCBL pros, 4 saw time in the show, 7 spent most of their season in AAA and 11 in AA with the balance in A and Rookie League. The Aloha Knights of Gresham are the WCCBL's most represented team in professional ball with 35 followed by Bend and Bellingham with 12 each, Wenatchee with 8, Kelowna with 7 and Spokane with 2.
