Jeff Ames

Forty-Five WCLers selected in 2011 MLB June draft. Ex-Wenatchee closer Jeff Ames of Lower Columbia picked 42nd overall by Tampa Bay

45 players that have competed for WCL clubs were selected in the 2011 MLB June draft held Monday, June 6 through Wednesday, June 8 including two first-rounders.

The first West Coast League pick was Tyler Anderson of University of Oregon. Anderson (pictured) was the 20th overall selection and was taken by the Colorado Rockies. Tyler pitched for Corvallis in 2009. He made five relief appearances before having to cut short his summer season due to injury.

The next highest WCL alum pick was first-team All-WCL hurler Jeff Ames of Lower Columbia College. Ames also went in the first round. The hard-throwing right-hander led the Wenatchee AppleSox to a title last summer.

Tem WCLers went in the first six rounds.

Ex-Corvallis Knight and All-Pac-10 catcher Andrew Susac of Oregon State, a teammate of Anderson's in Corvallis, was selected in the second round by San Francisco. Susac was voted the WCL's #1 prospect by Baseball America following the 2009 season.

Outfielder Bobby Crocker of Cal Poly and pitcher Cody Hebner of Green River CC were selected in the 4th round by Oakland and San Diego, respectively. Crocker was a first-team All-WCL performer for the Bend Elks in 2009 and Hebner was the ace of the Kitsap BlueJackets the past two summers.

The Corvallis Knights were the WCL club most represented in the draft as 14 Knights were selected. The Bend Elks were the next most represented WCL team with 7 draftees.
