Wenatchee closer Jeff Ames of Lower Columbia College leads Sox to WCL championship win

Wenatchee AppleSox closer Jeff Ames of Lower Columbia College registered a championship save in the Sox WCL Championship Series clinching game three 6-5 victory over the Bend Elks on Tuesday, August 17.

Ames tossed 2 innings and struck out 4 to earn his third save of the postseason.

The frosh pitched 5 2/3 innings in the playoffs and did not allow a single run over 4 appearances while striking out 9.

Ames was selected in the 30th round of the 2010 MLB draft by the Colorado Rockies.

The right-hander from Vancouver, Washington made 14 appearances for Wenatchee this summer and recorded six saves while striking out 38 over 32 1/3 innings pitched. Ames (0-1, 2.78) made three starts before settling in as the AppleSox closer.

This is Jeff's second championship of the year as Ames, a second-team All-NWAACC selection, won a title with Lower Columbia College in the spring and with the Sox in the summer.
