Clayton Mortensen

Wenatchee ace Clayton Mortensen, a junior-to-be at Gonzaga, earns complete game playoff win for champion AppleSox

Wenatchee ace Clayton Mortensen of Treasure Valley CC twirled a complete game gem in the WCCBL Championship Series opener to earn a 3-2 playoff win at Bellingham. Mortensen held the Bells to two runs on 7 hits while allowing only 1 earned run and striking out 9. The Sox would win game two in Wenatchee to capture the WCCBL's first league title.

Mortensen earned first-team All-WCCBL honors as the future Gonzaga Bulldog went 3-1 with a 2.13 ERA over 8 appearances and 6 starts. His stellar summer included a combined no-hitter - the league's first and only no-hitter - vs. the Kelowna Falcons July 27, 2005. Mortensen tossed the first 6 1/3 innings of the no-hitter.

The right-hander from Rexburg, Idaho starred at Treasure Valley CC this past spring as Mortensen was named first-team All-NWAACC Easter Region and led his team in wins (7), innings pitched (79.1), starts (12), complete games (3) and strikeouts (76). Clayton was selected in the 25th round of the 2005 MLB draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
