James Allan of Aloha and Matt Duryea of Bend lead Knights and Elks to home series wins
James Allan of University of Portland and Matt Duryea were named co-Players of the Week. Allan, a senior-to be first baseman, led the Knights to a 6-0 week. James hit in every game extending his hitting streak to 7 and was 9 for 18 with 4 doubles and 4 RBI. His biggest hit was a game winner vs. Moses Lake in the Knights series finale with the Pirates. With two outs and two strikes, Allan delivered a game-winning two-run single in the eighth to give Aloha the 3-2 victory and series sweep.
Duryea, a 20th round pick in the 2004 MLB draft and 50th round pick in the 2005 MLB draft of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, was brilliant in relief earning a save vs. defending WCCBL champion Wenatchee and win vs. Moses Lake. The southpaw closer from Marshfield, Oregon tossed a scoreless ninth vs. the Sox to earn his 3rd WCCBL save and 3 innings of scoreless relief vs. the Pirates to earn the win in the Elks 8-5 home victory. Duryea made three appearances and did not give up a run while allowing only one hit in 5 1/3 innings pitched while walking one and striking out 6. Bend went 5-1 at Vince Genna Stadium to improve its league mark to 8-7.
