Player of the Week Archive Ryan SeldenKnights slick-fielding infielder Ryan Selden of Riverside CC uses bat to tag Elks
Ryan Selden of the Aloha Knights was named WCCBL Player of the Week for his offensive and defensive performance over opening weekend. The freshman infielder from Riverside C.C (Ca) led the Knights to a home series win over its rival Bend Elks. In an opening WCCBL weekend dominated by pitching, Selden went 7 for 13 with 3 doubles and 5 RBI. The slick-fielding infielder also made several outstanding plays at shortstop and second base. Ryan was selected in the 41st round of the 2005 MLB draft by the Philadelphia Phillies and will be a sophomore next collegiate season at RCC. A broken hand slowed Selden early this spring, but Ryan finished strong batting .257 over 152 at bats with 6 doubles and 37 RBI. Selden's natural position is shortstop, but he also played second and third for Riverside.
